Hog Farm Supervisor
About This Role
Overseeing daily operations of a hog farm, the Hog Farm Supervisor manages livestock care, ensures regulatory compliance, and coordinates staff tasks. Responsibilities encompass feed management, health monitoring, and productivity optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate all activities on the hog farm, including feeding, breeding, artificial insemination, maintenance tasks and other related programs.
- Monitor the health and welfare of the hogs and ensure that they receive proper care and treatment as needed.
- Train, coordinate and supervise farm workers, ensuring that they follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, breeding, and production data, and prepare reports as required.
- Ensure farm safety, food safety and security, and bio-security procedures are maintained and followed.
- Manage inventory of feed, supplies, and equipment, and order additional items as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards, including biosecurity and animal welfare requirements.
- Work with veterinarians, nutritionists, and other industry professionals to optimize herd health and production.
- Participate in the development and implementation of farm policies and procedures, and provide input on operational improvements and cost-saving measures.
Required Skills
- At least 3 years of experience in working on a hog farm in a specialised livestock worker capacity.
- In Depth Knowledge of pig breeding and genetics
- Ability to manage and supervise a team of farm workers effectively
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Proficiency in record-keeping and data analysis
- Understanding of animal welfare regulations and compliance
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labor as needed
Qualifications
- Trade Certificate or Diploma of at least 1 year
