Pork Production Technician
About This Role
· Engaged in all day-to-day operation within the specific area of the swine production unit assigned (i.e. breeding, farrowing, weaning, washing)
· Recognize and treat certain livestock health problems
· Maintain herd health records
· Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns
· Manure handling
· Monitor and maintain appropriate ventilation and temperature in barns
· Perform other related duties as required, such as general maintenance of facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- At least 2-3 years of experience in working on a farm in a specialised worker capacity, but preference for specific swine farm experience is preferred.
- A college or other non university certificate or diploma, of 1 or more years in a farming occupation, or an alternative qualification with specific experience may be considered.
- An in Depth Knowledge of pig breeding and genetics, is advantageous.
- Ability to work in a team of farm workers effectively
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Proficiency in record-keeping and data analysis
- Understanding of animal welfare regulations and compliance
Required Skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labor as needed
Qualifications
- Min High School Diploma
- A tertiary qualification in Agriculture is preferable
